What this site is

My IQ Path publishes a free, self-administered reasoning test and a library of articles about cognitive testing. The test scores six domains drawn from the Cattell-Horn-Carroll model and reports a percentile band rather than a single number. The full detail is on the methodology page, which is written to be checkable rather than reassuring.

Who is behind it

My IQ Path grew out of a paper-and-pencil reasoning test that Peter Janicki created in 2020 while studying medical psychology. He holds an MSc in Medical Psychology and reviews the articles on this site, checking the claims and the sources they cite.

The test you take here is the online successor to that paper version. The comparison group behind your percentile comes only from people who have completed the online test; no results from the 2020 paper test are mixed in.

What we will not claim

A great deal of what is published about IQ online is overstated, and free tests are among the worst offenders. So the boundary matters more here than the marketing does:

  • We do not present a population-normed IQ. The estimated IQ on your result is your position among our own test-takers, converted to the mean-100 scale, labelled as an estimate and shown with its range. A normed IQ would require a professionally recruited standardisation sample, and we have not run one.
  • We do not present this as a clinical or diagnostic instrument. It is not a substitute for assessment by a licensed psychologist, and it cannot identify giftedness, a learning difference or any cognitive condition.
  • We do not support using it for hiring, admissions, placement or any other decision about another person. Those uses require a professionally administered test, and in several jurisdictions carry real legal exposure.

How the result is shown

Your score appears in full as soon as you finish — your estimated IQ with its range, your percentile and all six domain scores. Nothing is blurred, there is no payment step, and you do not need an account or an email address to take the test or to see the result. If you want to keep it, you can sign in to a free account on My Path afterwards and the finished session attaches itself.

How this is paid for

The test is free and stays free. My IQ Path is part of My Path, a broader assessment platform, and it is funded by the optional paid tiers on that platform rather than by charging for this result or by selling data about you. We do not sell your responses, and the item-level data we keep is used to review question difficulty; the percentiles improve as the comparison sample grows.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong — a factual error in an article, a claim that overreaches, a question with an ambiguous answer — we would rather hear it than not. The methodology page is the place where we have tried hardest to be precise, and it is the place where an error would matter most.
